What’s different about this StoryMob?
Our Gruffalo StoryMob is a collaborative effort between StoryMobs, Small Print Toronto and The Toronto Public Library (North York Central Branch). The North York Central Branch is home to an enormous and beautiful children’s library and lots of great space which the librarians have generously made available to us for our Gruffalo StoryMob. We are letting the secret out early this month, to allow everyone to plan their visit and to allow our partners to share the StoryMob with their followers. Small Print Toronto is also celebrating the Gruffalo’s 15th anniversary by bringing the author, Julia Donaldson (and the Gruffalo himself!) to their ‘Totsapalooza’ extravaganza one week later, on February 1. Totsapalooza is a ticketed event with lots of activities and entertainment and sells out fast – so book your tickets soon to avoid disappointment. Our StoryMob of ‘The Gruffalo’ on January 25th is free as always.

StoryMob day craft session!
On StoryMob day (January 25th), StoryMobs and Small Print Toronto will co-host a free pre-StoryMob crafts session at North York Central Library. Small Print Toronto will help you make monster masks and StoryMobs will assist with animal headbands and signs that can be used at the StoryMob in the afternoon. Materials are being generously supplied by Small Print Toronto. No charge for this one hour drop-in session. Plan to be at Meeting Room 1 at 11:00am to participate. The StoryMob mustering and rehearsal will be at 1pm and we will conduct our final StoryMob at 2pm.
Prop & Costume Ideas
‘The Gruffalo’ has lots of fun potential for prop and costume participation. Here are a few ideas – but we know you’ll have lots of your own too!
-dress up like a mouse, a snake, a fox an owl or a Gruffalo
-dress up like objects in the illustrations (tree, rock etc)
-make paintings or pictures of the forest or the animals’s homes
-make signs with lines from the book or drawings from the book
-make signs with slogans inspired by the book (‘There’s no such thing as a Gruffalo!’, ‘Mouse for Mayor’, ‘Be Kind To Animals’, ‘Gruffalos Need Friends Too’ etc)
-bring branches, foliage or other items to create the scene
-bring/make objects to show orange eyes, black tongue, purple prickles, terrible teeth, terrible claws etc
